Industry advantages include low planting costs and geographical proximity to the Middle East and Asian markets. However, it faces challenges such as low production efficiency (yield of about 500 kg/hectare, lower than the global average), backward processing technology, and insufficient supply chain facilities (storage loss rate is as high as 15%). The government is promoting agricultural mechanization, variety improvement and export tax rebate policy (tax rate will be increased to 6% in 2023), and strengthening trade cooperation with China and other countries. With the growth of global demand for healthy food, Pakistan has great export potential for sesame, but it needs to break through the bottleneck of technology upgrading and industrial chain integration to achieve sustainable growth.
